Construct a triangle ABC in which AB = 3.5 cm, AC = 4 cm and length of the perpendicular from A to BC is 3 cm.

Steps of construction:

(1) Draw a line segment XY.

(2) Mark a point M on XY.

(3) Draw ZM ⊥ XY such that MZ is sufficiently long.

(4) With M as the centre and radius 3 cm, draw an arc cutting MZ at A

(5) With A as the center and radii 3.5 cm and 4 cm, draw arcs cutting XY at B and C respectively. Join AB and AC.

Then, ABC is the required triangle.
