The steps to construct an equilateral triangle ABC with side length 4 cm are as follows:

Step 1: Draw base AB of length 4 cm.

Step 2: From A, draw an arc of length 4 cm.

Step 3: From B, draw an arc of 4 cm such that it intersects the arc made from A. Mark the point of intersection as C.



Step 4: Join A,B, and C to complete the equilateral triangle.


Step 5: Draw the altitude of the triangle from vertex C.(CM)

When we measure the length of CM, we get the altitude of the triangle as 3.4 cm.
