1) Draw a line of $A B$ of length $8.5 c m$ .
2) Draw a ray $A X$ making an acute angle with $A B$ .
3) Mark $5 + 7 = 12$ points on $A X$ such that $A A_{1} = A_{1} A_{2} = A_{2} A_{3}$ and so on.
4) Join $A_{12} B$ .
5) Through $A_{5}$ draw a line parallel to $A_{12} B$ intersecting $A B$ at point $C$ .
So $A C : C B = 5 : 7$
