Construct two chords of length 6 cm and 7 cm on either sides of the centre of a circle of radius 4.5 cm. Measure the distance between the centre and the chords.

Length of the first chord = 6 cm

Length of the second chord = 7 cm

To construct the circle and the chords, the steps below need to be followed:

1. Draw a circle of radius 4.5 cm with centre O.

2. Take two points A and C on the circle.

3. With points A and C as the centers and radii 6 cm and 7 cm respectively, draw arcs that cut the circle at points B and D.

4. Join A and B, and C and D.

5. Mark the midpoints of AB and CD as M and N.

6. Join OM and ON.

Thus, AB and CD are chords of lengths 6 cm and 7 cm respectively and the approximate distances between the centre O and chords AB and chords CD are 3.5 cm and 2.8 cm respectively.
