Question

Continuously water-logged soils are disadvantageous for plant growth. Why?

Open in App
Solution

The main functions of roots are water absorption and uptake of oxygen from the pore space of the soil. But in waterlogged soils, water takes the gaps between soil particles and also pushes the oxygen gas out towards the atmosphere. So, the roots gets deprived of oxygen gas and this affects root and plant growth.
