Particles in the gaseous state move randomly and have weak forces of attraction between them. Thus, there is a lot of free space between the particles. Lowering the temperature decreases the kinetic energy of the particles and increasing the pressure pushes them closer. The decreased intermolecular distance also increases the intermolecular force of attraction. This leads to the conversion of the gaseous state to the solid state.
