Question

Convert : (b) Hydrochloric acid to nascent chlorine.

Open in App
Solution

  • As nascent chlorine is the chlorine atom alone without any bonding which is also considered as chlorine- free radical and is represented as[Cl].
  • So, the hydrochlorine acid can be converted to nascent chlorine by mixing three parts of conc. hydrochloric acid and one part of conc. nitric acid gives nascent chlorine.
  • The reaction involved in this conversion is:
3HCl(conc.)+HNO3NOCl+2H20+2[Cl]
