$C H_{2} = C H_{2} + H C l ⟶ C H_{3} - C H_{2} - C l$
Now, $2 C H_{3} - C H_{2} - C l + 2 N a ⟶ 2 N a C l + C H_{3} - C H_{2} - C H_{2} - C H_{3}$
Thus, by the above reaction of ethene firsly with $H C l$ and then $n$ reaction of the product with sodium leads to the formation of Butane.
