Anti Markovnikov’s addition:
- The oxidation reaction is the reaction in which oxygen is added to a compound.
- Anti Markovnikov’s addition can be stated as, in the reaction of an alkene with hydrogen halide, hydrogen is added to the carbon atom of the double bond which is bonded to the least number of hydrogen atoms and the halide atom is bonded to another carbon atom of the double bond.
Conversion of Propene to Propan-1-ol:
- In the conversion of Propene to Propan-1-ol, an oxidation reaction takes place with follows Anti Markovnikov’s addition rule.
- To convert Propene to Propan-1-ol, the method of reaction of propene with peroxide is usually used.
- The mechanism involved in the given reaction can be shown as:
Step 1:Formation of 1-Bromo Propane:
At first, Propene reacts with Hydrogen bromide in the presence of Peroxide to form 1-Bromo Propane.
Step 1:Formation of Propan-1-ol:
The produced Alkyl halide reacts with KOH followed by heating produces Propan-1-ol as the final product.
Hence, in the above-mentioned steps, we can Convert Propene to Propan-1-ol.
