Question

Correct and balance the following reactions :

(a) Ca + H2 CaOH + H

(b) N + H NH3

Open in App
Solution

(a)

The basic equation is

CaO+H2OCa(OH)2+H2

Here the number of hydrogen (H) atoms and number of oxygen (O) atoms on both side are different. So we give 2 molecules of H2O on left hand side.

So the balanced equation becomes,

CaO+2H2OCa(OH)2+H2

(b)

The basic equation is

N2+H2NH3

Both hydrogen and nitrogen atoms are different on both sides. We first put 2 as coefficient on NH3. Ans then we balance hydrogen on left hand side.
So the balanced equation is,

N2+3H22NH3
