Adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH, also adrenocorticotropin, corticotropin) is a hormone produced and secreted by the anterior pituitary gland. ACTH is made in the pituitary gland in response to the release of another hormone, called corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH), by the hypothalamus. It stimulates secretion of glucocorticoids such as cortisol which helps the body to manage stress.
