Open in App
Solution

We know that the curved surface area of a right circular cylinder with radius r and height h is CSA=2πrh.

It is given that the height of the pen holder is h=14 cm and the radius of the pen holder is 5 cm, therefore,

CSA=2πrh=2×227×5×14=440 cm2

Therefore, cardboard required for each student is 440 cm2.

Also, it is given that total number of students in the class is 42,

Therefore, total cardboard required for 42 students is:

440×42=18480 cm2

Hence, 18480 cm2 cardboard was consumed.
