Cholelithiasis refers to the presence of gallstones in the common bile duct. The gallbladder is a pear-shaped organ that lies in the liver. It stores bile secreted by the liver. As the stomach and intestine digest food, bile is released by gallbladder into the common bile duct. The duct connects the liver and gallbladder to the small intestine. Sometimes when substances in the bile harden which blocks the bile duct to form gallstones. It causes nausea, vomiting, pain in the stomach, back or just under the right arm. Gallstones are more common in adults, women and those overweight.
