Question

Cs[AuCl3] is diamagnetic in nature. Is it Cs+[AuCl3]?

Open in App
Solution

If Cs[AuCl3] is written as Cs+[AuCl3], then check whether [AuCl3] is diamagnetic or not.
So the oxidation state of Au will be +2 i.e, Au (II)
Since it has one unpaired electron, it is paramagnetic not diamagnetic.
So it is not Cs+[AuCl3].
