Solution

The correct option is C Glucocorticoids/Cortisol
A. GH (Growth hormone) is secreted from anterior lobe of pituitary gland and stimulates body growth and carbohydrate, protein, fat metabolism.
B. Thyroxine is secreted from thyroid gland. It stimulates the consumption of oxygen by metabolically active tissues and also increases the oxidation of glucose in tissues.
C. Insulin is secreted from the β cells of islets of Langerhans of pancreas. Insulin acts on hepatocytes and adipocytes and increases the uptake of cellular glucose and its utilisation. This leads to movement of glucose to hepatocytes and adipocytes from the blood, thereby resulting in the decreased blood glucose levels.
D. Cortisol is a glucocorticoid hormone secreted from adrenal cortex and regulates carbohydrate metabolism , storage of glycogen and increases reabsorption of sodium and water from the renal tubules.
Cushing disease occurs due to hypersecretion of cortisol due to which fat deposition occurs around shoulders, face and neck.
So, the correct answer is 'Glucocorticoids/Cortisol'.
