Solution

Let the number of scustomers = x.
Let the number of customer per row = y originally.
Hence, total number of rows =xy
i) If the number of customer per row is 1 extra, then, number of rows =x(y+1)=(xy)2 (2 rows less than original number of rows)
x(y+1)=(x2y)yxy=(x2y)(y+1)=xy2y2+x2yx=2y(y+1)(a)
ii) If the number per row is 1 less, then the number of rows =x(y1)=(xy)+3
x(y1)=(x+3y)yxy=(y1)(x+3y)xy=xyx+3y23yx=3y(y1)(b)
From (a) and (b)
2y(y+1)=3y(y1)2y+2=3y3y=5x=3×5(51)=60
So the total number of customer = 60
