D and E are respectively the points on the sides AB and AC of a triangle ABC ,such that AE =5cm AC=7.5 cm and DE =4.2cm and DE//BC ,find the length of BC.

Given
AE =5cm
AC=7.5 cm and
DE =4.2cm

By BPT

AE/AC = DE/BC =AD/AB

so BC = (AC x DE)÷(AE)
=(7.5 x 4.2) ÷ (5)
=31.5 / 5=6.3 cm
