Compare the fractions and put an appropriate sign:

$\frac{3}{5}\square \frac{3}{7}$

The given fractions $\frac{3}{5},\frac{3}{7}$ are unlike fractions because they have different denominators.

When we compare two unlike fractions, we first get their equivalent fractions with a denominator which is a common multiple of the denominators of both the fractions.

The LCM of 5 and 7 is 35.

The equivalent fractions with the same denominator are :

$\frac{3}{5}=\frac{3\times 7}{5\times 7}=\frac{21}{35}$ and $\frac{3}{7}=\frac{3\times 5}{7\times 5}=\frac{15}{35}$

Now, $\frac{21}{35}>\frac{15}{35}$

$\frac{3}{5}\begin{array}{c}>\end{array}\frac{3}{7}$

Note: If two unlike fractions have the same numerator then the fraction whose denominator is more has lesser value.
