Question 2 (d)
Mark (T) if the statement is true and (F) if it is false:
(d) The ruminants bring back swallowed grass into their mouth and chew it for some time.
The given statement is true.
The ruminants bring back swallowed grass into their mouth and chew it for some time. The grass eating animals such as cows, buffaloes swallow the grass and stores it in a separate part of the stomach called rumen. The grass is rich in cellulose, it gets partially digested here and is called cud. The cud later returns to the mouth of the animals in small lumps and they chew it. This process is called rumination and these animals are called ruminants.
