According to Dalton's law of partial pressures, for a mixture of non-reacting gases, the total pressure is equal to the sum of the partial pressures of the individual gases.

This law is not applicable to the mixtures H2+Cl2,NH3+HCl and SO2+Cl2 as they react with each other.

For example, hydrogen and chlorine react to form hydrogen chloride, ammonia and hydrochloric acid forms ammonium chloride while sulphur dioxide reacts with chlorine to form SO2Cl2.
