Solution

The correct option is D survival of the fittest and natural selection
The theory of natural selection was explained by Darwin in his book, “On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural selection”. According to Darwin, in the struggle for existence, only those members who possess useful variations (the changes in the organism suitable for that habitat or environment) will be succeeded. These organisms are the fittest for survival and selected by nature. The fit individuals selected by nature will reproduce more and this process is called natural selection. So, fitness is the end result of the ability to adapt and get selected by nature.

Use and disuse of organs is a basic concept of Lamarckism. According to this theory, if an organ is used continuously and constantly, it will tend to become highly developed whereas a disused organ results in degeneration.

The theory of continuity of germplasm was given by Weismann. According to this theory, the germplasm (protoplasm) present in germ cells will be passed into the offspring whereas somatoplasm plays no role in heredity.

Louis Pasteur gave the “theory of biogenesis”. According to this theory, life arises from pre-existing organisms.

Hence, options a, b, c are wrong and option d is correct.
