Decide whether $\frac{3}{y} - 4 = y$ is a quadratic equation or not.

Solution

$\frac{3}{y} - 4 = y$
$∴$ $3 - 4 y = y^{2}$
$∴$ $y^{2} + 4 y - 3 = 0$
comparing with $a y^{2} + b y + c = 0$
Here, $a = 1, b = 4, c = - 3$
$∴$ It is a quadratic equation.
