Question

Decomposition of Silver chloride reaction is an example of?

Open in App
Solution

Decomposition reaction:

  • Decomposition reaction can be defined as a chemical reaction in which one reactant breaks into two or more products.
  • It is mostly used for the extraction of metals from their ores. i,e Zinc can be obtained from Calamine ore by subjecting it to a decomposition reaction.

Photolytic decomposition:

  • Photolytic decomposition is known as a decomposition reaction that is activated by sunlight energy or breaking of reactant into its constituent chemical reaction by absorbing energy from photons.
  • For example, The decomposition of an Ozone molecule into Dioxygen and an Oxygen radical, can be shown as the chemical reaction given as:

O3(g)Ozone+O2(g)Dioxygen+O.Oxygenradical

Decomposition of Silver chloride reaction:

  • The decomposition of Silver chloride undergoes in the example of photolytic decomposition as it requires sunlight as the energy, to break the reactant into constituent elements.
  • For which the reaction can be given as :

2AgCl(aq)Silverchloride2Ag(s)Silver+Cl2(g)Chlorine( in presence of sunlight).

Hence, decomposition of Silver chloride reaction is an example of photolytic decomposition.
