Solution

Dear student,

Pressure = thrust/ areaso by decreasing area, we can increase the pressureApplication:1. In case of knife, if the edge is sharp, that means the surface area of the edge is small, then with same thurst we can generate more pressure. Thus with sharp knives, its easy to cut something in comparision to the blunt knife.2. Nails with pointed ends are easier to penetrate in wall, as the surface area decreases in case of pointed edge, the pressure at the tip increases for a constant thrust.
