'Defaecation is not excretion'. Explain.

Open in App
Solution

Defecation:

  1. The last stage of digestion, in which organisms pass a solid, semisolid, or liquid waste item known as feces through the anus is known as defecation.
  2. Defecation, or passing out or removing feces, is not considered an excretory process.
  3. The anus is responsible for removing undigested or inconvertible food from the alimentary canal.

Excretion:

  1. The removal of metabolic waste products created as a result of numerous biochemical reactions is known as excretion.
  2. It is an essential phase in the lives of all living things.
  3. It also regulates the osmotic content of all body fluids, which is known as osmoregulation.

And, because the fecal matter is not generated by metabolism, Defecation is not considered excretion.
