Define a balanced chemical equation. Why should an equation be balanced?
The equation in which the number of atoms of each element is equal on both sides (Reactant and Product side) of the equation is known as a balanced chemical equation.
According to the law of conservation of mass, when a chemical reaction occurs, the mass of the products should be equal to the mass of the reactants. Therefore, the amount of atoms in each element does not change in the chemical reaction. As a result, the chemical equation needs to be balanced.
