Define a compound. Give two points of evidence to show that sodium chloride is a compound.

i) Compound:-

When two or more atoms of different elements combine together in a fixed proportion by mass, then it is termed a compound.

ii)Evidence that NaCl is a compound:-
1. Compounds cannot be separated by simple physical means and to separate Sodium Chloride into Sodium and chloride we have to use chemical methods.
2. NaCl does not show properties of either Sodium(Na) or Chlorine (Cl) which is a characteristic property for defining a compound.

3. Sodium chloride contains fixed amount of constituents by mass
