A matrix is a rectangular array of numbers in rows and columns enclosed within square brackets or parenthesis. The numbers that make up a matrix are called entries or elements of the matrix. Each horizontal arrangement in a matrix is called a row of that matrix. Each vertical arrangement in a matrix is called a column of that matrix.
