The minimum temperature at which a substance starts melting and becomes a liquid at atmospheric pressure is known as its melting point. The melting point of ice is 00C.

(b) Boiling point

The minimum temperature at which a liquid substance starts boiling and becomes gas at atmospheric pressure is known as its boiling point. The boiling point of water is 1000C.

(c) Specific heat

The amount of heat required to raise the temperature of 1 kg of a substance by 10C is called specific heat of the substance. Its SI unit is Cal/(kg 0C).

(d) Calorie

One calorie of heat is the amount required to raise the temperature of 1 kg of water by 10C (from 14.50C to 15.50C).
