(a) polar covalent compound and
(b) non-polar covalent compound

Open in App
Solution

1. Polar covalent compound: A covalent compound formed by an equal sharing of electrons from bonded atoms but are unequally distributed among the bonded atoms due to the large difference in electronegativity.

Atoms in polar covalent molecule attains partial positive and negative charges.

Ex: H-Cl - Hδ+ & Clδ-

2. Non- polar covalent compound: A covalent compound formed by an equal sharing of electrons from bonded atoms and are equally distributed among the bonded atoms due to the very less or negligible difference in electronegativity.

Ex: H-H
