Pure substances are substances that are made up of similar kind of particles.

There are two types of pure substances : elements and compounds.

• Element : An element is a pure substance made up only of one type of atoms. e.g. Hydrogen (H), Chlorine (Cl)
• Compound : A chemical compound is a pure substance made up of atoms of different elements that are combined chemically. e.g. Sulphuric acid (${\mathrm{H}}_2{\mathrm{SO}}_4$) , Hydrogen Chloride (HCl)
