Absolute Refractive Index of a Medium:
The absolute refractive index is defined as the ratio of the speed of light in a vacuum to the speed of light in the given medium.
It is always greater than 1.
If $c$ is the speed of light in a vacuum and $v$ is the speed of light in the given medium, then the absolute refractive index is given as:
$n = \frac{c}{v}$
