Definition

Two or more alternative forms of a gene are present at the same loci of homologous chromosomes and controlling the same character are called alleles or allelomorphs.

Also known as a variant form of a gene.

Example- For flower color in pea plants, purple color is said to be the dominant allele, and the white color is said to be a recessive allele.
