Allotropy:

  • The ability of an element to exist in more than one physical forms having same physical state is called as allotropy.
  • The various existing forms having same physical state, exhibiting identical chemical properties but different physical properties are called as allotropic forms.
  • For example; Diamond and Graphite are the allotropic forms of carbon. Few other elements which exhibit allotropy are oxygen, sulfur and phosphorous.
