Define ammonification.
Ammonification:
The decomposition of proteins of dead animals and plants to ammonia in the presence of ammonifying bacteria such as Bacillus ramosus and Bacillus vulgaris.
In the Nitrogen cycle, ammonification is an important step as it converts the proteins of dead organisms into ammonia which can be utilized by plants by converting it into nitrites and nitrates by nitrifying bacteria.
