Audible sound:

  1. Human ear is able to respond only those to vibrations whose frequencies are between 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz.
  2. The sound of this range of frequencies is called audible sound.
  3. Dogs can hear sound range which is greater than 20,000 Hz.

Inaudible sound:

  1. Frequencies below 20 Hz and beyond 20,000 Hz cannot be heard by human ears, they are known as inaudible sound.
  2. Vibrations having frequencies greater than 20,000 Hz are called ultrasonic vibrations.
  3. Vibrations having frequencies lower than 20 Hz are called infrasonic vibrations.
  4. Ultrasonic vibrations can be heard by infants and some animals like dogs, bats, monkeys, leopards, etc.
  5. Infrasonic frequencies are mainly used in the study of seismography.
