Define Canals filled with a permanent material (gutta - percha)?

  • Gutta-percha is material which is obtained from the plants is used in the root canal treatment to fill the root cavity.
  • When there is a decay in the tooth the decay is removed and the tooth is cleaned till the root to ensure that the tooth is completely cleaned and not amount of infection is left that will reoccur after the treatment.
  • After the root is cleaned the hollow tooth from the removal of the decayed pulp is filled with this permanent filling of gutta-percha and some of the temporary material till the top of the tooth; till the crown to cover the tooth is not ready.
  • When the crown covering for the tooth is ready filling from top of the tooth is removed and the crown is placed and fitted on the tooth permanently.
  • This gutta-percha is a permanent filling in the tooth cavity and it keeps the canal free from any infection or contamination
