A genetic carrier or simply a carrier refers to an organism that inherits a recessive allele for a particular genetic trait or mutation but does not display the trait or show symptoms of the disease.​
For example in X-linked recessive diseases, an affected male and a carrier female containing the mutated X-allele must come together for their daughter to be diseased.
