The cathode ray experiment is that when a gas at a very low atp is released inside the discharge tube and high voltage is passed through the gas, the cathode exerts invisible rays which bombard the glass of the disharge tube and change the colour of the glass.

This is the cathode ray experiment and due to a variety of properties of the cathode rays, the presence of electrons were proved.
