Solution

Definition:

  1. The method to produce color by removing colors from the white light is called color subtraction.
  2. A process in which some wavelengths of an illuminating light source are absorbed by pigments in an object, while the remaining wavelengths are reflected.

Demonstration by example:

  1. Consider that the white light is shining on the t-shirt which would mean that the red, green, and blue light is shining on the shirt.
  2. Suppose the fabric of the t-shirt is capable of absorbing the blue light. Thus only Red and green light will reflect from it when Red, blue and green light shines on it.
  3. We know that by combining red and blue, the yellow color is produced. So, when red and green color strikes our eye, it will give us the appearance of yellow color, and thus the shirt will appear yellow.
  4. This illustrates the process of color subtraction in which blue color is eliminated from the white light to produce a yellow color.
