Question

Define complex lipids and write the structure of nucleotide and nucleoside?

Open in App
Solution

Complex lipids are the esters of long chain fatty acids and can be hydrolysed. They include triglycerides (animal fats and vegetable oils), glycolipids, phospholipids and waxes.
Nucleotide are obtained by the esterification of C5OH group of the pentose sugar by phosphoric acid. It contains all three basic components of nucleic acids such as, a pentose sugar, a nitrogenous base and a phosphoric acid. They are joined together through phosphate ester linkage.
A nucleosides is formed when 9-position of guanine or adenine base or 1-position of pyrimidine (cytosine, thymine or uracil) base is attached to C-1 of sugar through β-linkage.
