Solution

Definition of coordinate bond

A type of covalent bond formed when both the electrons for sharing between the atoms are contributed by one atom only. This type of bond is known as coordinate bond or dative bond.

  • The atom which contributes the pair of electrons is called donor atom
  • The atom which accepts these electrons is called acceptor atoms.
  • For example, formation of ammonium ions (NH4+)
  • Here nitrogen contain lone pair of electron, so nitrogen is the donor atom.
  • The H+ ion accept the pair of electrons from nitrogen atom so H+ is the acceptor
