Define crop. Name the various types of crops. What are Kharif and Rabi crops?

Crops are plants of the same type that are grown and cultivated at a large scale.
Various types of crops are grown like cereals, vegetables, spices, etc. These crops are used for various purposes like food, fodder, for obtaining fiber, timber, flowers, etc.

Based on season, crops can be divided into two types:​

1. Kharif crops - The crops that are grown during the rainy season starting from June to October are known as Kharif crops. The seeds are sown at the beginning of the monsoon season and are reared till the end of the monsoon season. Example - Rice (Paddy), maize and soyabean.​

2. Rabi Crops - Crops grown during the winter season starting from November to April are known as Rabi Crops. Example - Wheat, pea and gram.​
