  1. Crystallization: The process of cooling a hot, concentrated solution of a substance to obtain the crystals.
  2. It is the most commonly used technique for the purification of a solid organic compound.
  3. When the hot solution is cooled, the solubility decreases and the solid appears in the solution.
  4. Crystallization can be satisfactorily carried out in a mixture of thick solvents taken in appropriate proportion.

Examples:

  1. Pure salt can be obtained from seawater on large scale.
  2. Pure drugs can be obtained from an impure mixture.
