  2. It is also commonly referred to as roughage and contains cellulose which is an indigestible carbohydrate.

Importance of dietary fibres:

  1. It does not provide any nutrients but is an essential component of our food as it adds to its bulk.
  2. It is also believed that consuming high-fiber diets can lead to a reduced risk of heart disease and bowel cancer.
  3. They also increase the size and weight of the stool and soften it which allows easy passage through the anus.
  4. It is mainly found in whole grains, pulses, potatoes, fresh fruits, vegetables, etc.
