Disaster management:
The organisation and management of resources and responsibilities and conservation of lives and property during natural or human-made disasters.
The disaster management cycle:
The ultimate goal of disaster management is to reduce the effects of a disaster in all possible ways. For that, a 4-step cycle can be used.
Response: Immediately after the disaster, this step is taken as it invloves rescue and emergency medical aid.
Recovery:Response is usually follwed y the next step that is recovery. It includes getting the community back to normal. It can be done with the help of providing temporary housing and grants or even emotional and mental support in some cases as disasters include loss of life too.
Mitigation: This step is about reducing the risk of disasters. It includes mapping hazard-prone areas, educating citizens, etc.
Preparedness: As the name suggests, this step is about being ready for any kind of disaster as some of the disasters can not be avoided - like an earthquake or a cyclone. It includes timely rescue drill, keeping resources and taskforce ready for immediate actions.
