When two different unit factors are present in a single individual only one unit factor is able to express itself then that unit factor is known as the dominant factor. Another unit factor that fails to express itself is the recessive factor. In the presence of the dominant unit factor recessive factor fails to express itself.
Example, tall and dwarf heights of the plant are represented by two factors. In presence of factor for tall, the factor for dwarf is not expressed, so all plants appear to be tall.
