  1. Consider a small positive test charge placed in the electric field of a given charge or charged object.
  2. Due to the interaction of the electric field on the charge, it experiences an electric force.
  3. If the test charge is moved from this position, then work has to be done against the electric force acting on it.
  4. The work done (W) in bringing a positive test charge (Q) from infinity to a given point in an electric field, is called electric potential (V).
  5. V=WQ
  6. The SI unit of electric potential is volt which is denoted by V.
