Solution
Endemism means that a species of plant or animal is confined to a particular location in a specific habitat and is not found anywhere else. Such species are called endemic species.
An area which is extremely rich in species diversity, has high endemism and is under constant threat, is called a hotspot. Such areas are the regions of accelerated habitat loss. For example, Western ghats and Eastern Himalayas.
