No, it is not necessary for two bodies to be in direct contact for a force to exist between them.
For example, the gravitational force acts between two celestial bodies like the earth and the moon which are 384400 km apart.
Same is the case with electrical charges which experience Coulomb's Force when they are some distance apart.
